Crochet Ice Cream Stitch Pattern

This fun crochet stitch looks so cute when you combine 2 colors of yarn. You can make a baby blanket out of it as it will create great looks for your work on both right side and wrong side. Using it to crochet chair cushion/ seat pad is a great choice as well.

Materials

  • Yarn and hook to your preferences - I use 2mm yarn and 3mm crochet hook
  • Scissors & yarn needle

Abbreviations (US terms)

  • R: row/ round
  • Ch: chain
  • St: stitch
  • Sk: skip stitch
  • Hdc: half double crochet
  • Dc: double crochet
  • FP: front post
  • FPhdc: front post half double crochet
  • Cl: cluster stitch
  • 5FPhdc-cl: cluster stitch made from 5 half double crochet
  • (...): the stitches in the parentheses must all be worked to one single stitch
  • (...) x N: repeat the instructions in the parentheses N times
  • Turn: flip the work like turning a book page in order to crochet on the other side
  • [...]: the number of stitches of a row/ round
  • <color>: color of yarn to be used or changed to

Ice Cream Stitch Crochet Pattern

Chain a multiple of 4. For example, make 24 chains (=4x6)
The 'ch3' at the beginning of a row is counted as a double crochet

R1. <white> Ch3, (3dc) to the 5th ch from hook, (sk3, (3dc)) x5, sk1, dc

R2. <white> Ch1 & turn, (2sc, 5FPhdc-cl) x6, 2sc - the cluster stitch should be worked to the middle double crochet of the set of (3dc) made in R1
